I stopped by Soul Shack last weekend, but it was packed—definitely a popular spot! I decided to return during the week, and I’m so glad I did. The food was well worth the wait.

The soul rolls were absolutely amazing—crispy, flavorful, and filled with the perfect mix of ingredients. Definitely a must-try! My husband ordered the oxtail and really enjoyed it. It was tender, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection.

The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and despite the busy weekend crowd, the service during the week was smooth and friendly. If you’re looking for delicious soul food, Soul Shack is the place to go! I’ll definitely be back to try more of their menu.

The egg rolls was good. The mac cheese was too cheese z...the yams was good. The southern lemon pepper wings was too lemony, salty and over cook...I told my server she said how was the atmosphere not I'm sorry the food was not good. My drink was ok. Than the server charge me twice on the yams....I spent over 60.00 to much for bad wings.

The service was horrible. We had to keep reminding our waiter (the manager) to bring us our orders. The runner brought our large appetizer without plates. My friend never got her Martini and the bar closed. The waiter kept trying to upcharge me on my lamb chop to Parmesan when I ordered Jerk. It was a birthday dinner. No birthday song sung and no complimentary birthday dessert. He (the manager/waiter) told us that he had never heard of complimentary birthday desserts. The food was plated horribly and mediocre. We won’t be returning.

My husband and I went there for Valentine's 2025 after reviews from Facebook. The atmosphere was beautiful. Our reservations were honored. The only thing I wish was that the wait time wasn't as long and maybe the food. Some of the seasoning could've been better but overall, it was a special moment for us and I enjoyed the photo and backdrops. I also enjoyed the initiatives of the service that they were giving it was Valentine so you know how that goes.....The manager and assistant manager both made a stop by our table to check in on us and assured us, the food was coming! Outside of our family emergency. I definitely would've given this restaurant a three out of five. You should try it out.

Dear Soul Shack Management,

I am writing to formally express my disappointment with my recent visit to your Cedar Hill location on 1/30/25. I was excited to dine at your establishment, but unfortunately, my experience fell far below expectations due to poor service, long wait times, and miscommunication from the staff.

My date and I had a reservation for 8:15 PM and were seated promptly. We placed our drink and appetizer orders around 8:30 PM. The music was so loud, we were unable to have a conversation. It took over 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive, and our appetizers and entrĆ©es were served at the same time—except for my date’s main course, which never arrived. After inquiring about his baked chicken, we were told the kitchen had run out. While we appreciated the server offering to remove it from the bill and replace it with another dish, the replacement (chicken and waffles).

We waited patiently, but by 10:00 PM—nearly two hours after our reservation—my date still had not received his chicken and waffles. When we asked about it, we were informed that the kitchen had canceled the order without notifying us. I asked to speak to the manager for a full refund, but my waiter said he was the manger, and had already took off my dates meal. I explained he had no meal to take off, because he received no meal. At that point, we decided to leave, having paid for a meal that was incomplete and an overall disappointing experience.

I understand that restaurants can have off nights, but the lack of communication and the failure to provide the food we ordered was unacceptable. I believe a gesture of goodwill, such as a refund or a credit, would be appropriate given the circumstances. More importantly, I hope you take this feedback seriously and work to improve your service so future guests don’t encounter the same frustration.

I went to try this place out, and overall, I had a good experience. I got the Salmon plate, Fried Green Tomatoes, and the Beef Tips Plate. The Greens were a complete letdown for us and tasted like an un-soulful Karen made them.
The Salmon plate for $29 could’ve used a little sprucing up maybe add a bed of rice or some asparagus to it.
The atmosphere was good. They had a lot of band good vibes. Beef Tips were great. The fried green Tomatoes were great. I just need more for the price. I didn't get the side of gravy but that's on me should've checked the bag more thoroughly.

Atmosphere is very nice if you’re on a date night, the customer service was very good. The food on the other hand is extremely expensive given the quality of the dishes.
The southern chicken lacked season and was kind of dry to say the least. (3.2 out of 10) The mac and cheese was some of the worst I’ll tasted in a while, came out cold and cheese wasn’t all the way melted. (3.5 out of 10)
The sweet potatoes were so sweet you will need insulin if you get to finish. (2.4 out of 10)
The rolls were different and when adding the syrup it gave it more overpowering sweetness while it already has the sweet potato inside. (3.2 out of 10)
The cornbread came out hot but was very dry. (4.2 out of 10)
This place can’t last with these prices and the quality of food that’s presented.

From the outside it looks as though it may be too bright Indy but that was not the case. Service was good and the food was great. I had oxtails w/rice, greens and yams. I also had a peach cobbler martini (sent it back, too sweet). Overall, I was seated fairly quickly but I did have a reservation.
