From the moment we walked into Romana European Tapas, we were transported straight to the heart of Europe. The atmosphere is warm, elegant, and intimate—perfect for a date night or a cozy dinner with friends. Every dish we tried was crafted with intention and bursting with flavor. The tapas are a beautiful fusion of traditional European flair with a modern twist, and the presentation is just as impressive as the taste.

The service was impeccable—attentive without being overbearing, and the staff made us feel right at home. The sangria was refreshing and perfectly balanced, and the chef’s selection left us wanting to order seconds of everything.

Romana is an absolute gem in NJ. If you’re looking for a place that delivers top-tier quality, ambiance, and hospitality, this is it. We’ll definitely be back—and bringing more friends with us next time!

We went on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday with a party pf 14 people. Romana had a great atmosphere, and decor was nice!! Even the bathrooms were nice, clean, and smelled good lol. I had a DJ who did an amazing job, new music, throwbacks, etc. I forget his name. The food was OK. The appetizer with the beans and fried plantains was delicious. Beans were well seasoned, and the plantains were perfectly crispy and salted. I ordered the red snapper, which was delicious. The fish was crisy and cooked perfectly. I wished it was more seasoned, tho. The rice that came with the red snapper was DELICIOUS!! The vegetables were tasty, too. I ordered an old fashion that was great too. I would definitely come back again for a date night.

LOVED THIS PLACE!!!!! The Miami ambience, decor, food, drinks, service TOP SHELF! Beautiful and very clean lounge. I went on a Thursday night and had a great experience. Found this place by accident and they did not disappoint. We ordered: Surf and Turf Empanadas (9/10)..Jumbo Lump Crab(10/10)…Wings (8/10)… Dbl Smash Burger (10/10)

Cocktails: Romana Fans is so so good! If you’re a Ketel one fan definitely try it. Coconut Mojito was refreshing. I felt like i needed to be sitting by the beach in the Caribbean.

They also offer hookah, so just in case you don’t like that, maybe go earlier in the day around happy hour. Keep that in mind in case you want to go for an after-work corporate sponsored happy hour. The restaurant kept their doors open which definitely helped when a table ordered hookah.

Love, love this place. The food was absolutely amazing. The service was A1. Maritza was excellent from start to finish. She made sure everyone was being serviced correctly and efficiently. Noel made my booking experience great. He responded to all my questions in a timely matter. I appreciate the wonderful hospitality that I received from Maritza and her staff. I would give Romana European Tapas Lounge and 1000 out of 10. I recommend everyone to go check them out you won't be disappointed. I'll see you guys soon.

I recently visited Romana European Tapas Lounge in downtown Newark with high expectations, especially for their grilled octopus, which unfortunately was not available—along with the Brussels sprouts. The menu is marketed as European cuisine, but what I experienced fell far short.

We ordered several dishes, hoping to sample a good range. The crab croquettes were clearly frozen, not freshly made. The mac and cheese tasted like boxed Kraft, the patatas bravas were not as described and lacked any real flavor in the sauce, and the deviled eggs with lobster didn’t stand out at all. The wagyu hot dog was actually the best thing I tried, which says a lot. The Caesar salad was as ordinary as they come. As for drinks, the coconut mojito was okay—nothing memorable—and the whiskey was just fine.

The ambiance didn’t do much to enhance the experience. Aside from some art on the walls, there was nothing particularly European about the decor. The music was so loud it was hard to hold a conversation, and the place felt more like a bar than a proper restaurant or lounge. Service was also underwhelming—we were only offered water once during the entire visit.

For the high prices, I expected far better food and a more thoughtful dining experience. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend Romana. There are much better spots in Newark for both food and atmosphere.
