I stopped in to speak with someone at the Social Security office while passing through Enid, Oklahoma today hoping to clarify my situation. I began receiving Disability for my mental health issues back in 2008. My mother was my payee for most of the 16 years of the monthly benefit. She didn't need my money, she's very well off financially, but she withheld much of it from me and only spoon-fed me what she wanted to. She is guilty of social security fraud and abuse. I had around $9,000 in the savings account that she insisted I had and could use to find a place to live and furnish it or for car maintenance and repairs. Neither happened to me and I have been homeless for over 3 years again.
The good news is that Social Security has hired some amazing people to assist the public at the local offices. I am now my payee, thanks to a very astute and considerate associate in an Iowa field office. She listened and found me capable of handling my funds. The same thing happened today in this branch. I was called to window three where I met with another awesome and supportive lady to pick up an award letter and tell her what happened with my mother. She was genuinely sorry empathetic and so helpful. I let her know that I wanted to keep going forward with the investigation into my mother's behavior. It's very serious and devastating what she has caused to my life and personal welfare. I live in my Jeep and keep moving further away from her. I'm 57 and she will not control the last third of my life.
Please stand up for yourself or anyone you may know who is going through something such as this. Fraud and abuse with a mentally ill or otherwise disabled person is inexcusable.
