My son treated me to a dinner on a Sunday. It was crowded. The hostess looked overwhelmed. We did not make reservations due to the restaurant being described as casual. The hostess did well with finding us a table for two within 15 minutes. It was loud. I do appreciate 90s Love songs but the volume was overwhelming and because of this people had to speak loudly. I literally had a hard time communicating with my son. I'm in my 40s with perfect hearing. My son is 14 years old and he couldn't hear me. That's why I rated Atmosphere 2 stars.
Ordered our food. For our starter we ordered fried deviled eggs. It was salty. The flavor balance was absent. The dill was overwhelming with the taste of the salty vinegar "hot sauce" that was absent of spice. This was not from me. When the server brought us our stater I reminded him of my absent cocktail and side salad that I ordered. He said he would check on it. All I had was water to wash down those salty dill eggs.

For the Main Dish, my son ordered fried chicken, fries, and mac n'cheese. It was crispy, tender, juicy, and cooked through. He said it was "cool". I had the oxtails, rice with gravy with sweet potatoes. Remind you that 5 minutes after receiving my main dish I finally received my cocktail, which was brought to me by the bartender. The oxtails were lacking herbs. Once again it was salty. I did not taste any thyme, garlic, or a hint of bay leaf. No celery, nothing. The rice tasted of pantry flavor and was not fluffy. It was like par-boiled rice which I dislike. Now they were tender and this puzzled me. Due to the lack of flavor. I was disappointed. The sweet potatoes were good, nicely cooked and seasoned.

My cocktail was Langston Lavender Lemon Drop. I like floral cocktails. I am a sucker for them. This was my first time having a lemon drop and I enjoyed it. It was sweet with just enough pucker. I could have done without the sugar on the rim. The lavender was present and not overwhelming. Unfortunately, I did not receive my cocktail in an appropriately prompt time and If I did I would have ordered a second one to go with my main dish. Instead of having to wait for it.

I wish I could say it was a lovely experience but we stayed because we were there and tried to make the best of it. I'm not sure if I'll return or recommend it.

I just had takeout today I ordered greens, oxtails, fried fish, macaroni and cheese, grits, hush puppies. The staff at the front really needs customer service training extremely rude we also got a text that our food was ready only to wait for it to be packed. However the grits and greens were good also the fish was flavorful the mac and cheese was ok not cheesy enough for me. I was very excited with the large portions of oxtail only to find it was pretty dry in some places. I spent a lot of money here unfortunately I won’t be returning and would advise everyone eat in if you want to be treated with care but it is busy here.

Excellent and vast menu with great vibes for group dining!

I thoroughly enjoyed my order, 3 pieces of fried chicken and 2 waffles for $21. The pieces were well done with a bit of char, and the waffles were thin and delicious with the maple syrup. That grape jelly butter was also NEXT LEVEL.

They had a brunch cocktail of $70 for a bottle of champagne with juice options (pineapple, cranberry, orange) for mimosa purposes. They were also really chill about splitting the bill with multiple credit cards. Will definitely come back next time I’m in the mood for DTLA brunch!

Loved our experience at Fixins Soul Kitchen! We booked reservations ahead of a concert we were going to at the Cryto arena. Great ambience and we loved the food. I got the chicken and waffles with a side of Mac and cheese and my son had the hot chicken sandwich and we both gave our meals 10/10. We topped it off with the peach cobbler which was a delicious dessert!

I liked the vibe inside the restaurant. The menu is simple and doesn’t have many options which is fine. Now I do enjoy some crispy chicken but my chicken breast was Fried too hard. The greens was the winner out the dish. Flavorful and tender. The problem I had was I went to the restroom to wash my hands only to come back to my table and someone cleaned off my table. My drink was gone. That left me heated but I remained calm. I asked the waitress and about the situation and she told me they would give me another drink on the house. Price was expensive for it just being me but that’s just the way the economy is. I’m not sure I’ll be back. Kind of a one and done. The staff was a1

The food was pretty good. A little overpriced. Loved the catfish nuggets. The smothered porkchops n gravy had a nice taste. Overall, I would recommend and return. Also, the grits were cooked perfectly. Small portion, though. Chicken was good also. Mac n cheese was a lil on the dry side. Collard greens had a nice taste.

I went on a Sunday, there was great food, great vibes, and great music! There was a small weight for a table, but fortunately for me, the bar was available. For the appetizer, I had fried deviled eggs. I had the smothered pork chops with mac & cheese, yams, and greens. I also got to try the catfish. Everything was tasty, I had no complaints about the food. The bathroom was clean. The Customer Service was good. I would definitely return and recommend this restaurant.

Our waiter was phenomenal. Service was great even with the crowds, accidentally went on Grammy night. 💃🏽 Oxtails were a little chewy but flavor was good. Appetizers and drinks were great. I would try it again 😉
