Very beautiful and pretty spacious local mom and pop vibe restaurant. Beautiful yellow flowers at entry way to upstairs (not wheelchair accessible) and on ceilings inside of the restaurant. Pretty cute reusable tableware including plates, napkin, and bowls. Very delicious, strong flavored authentic Thai food. We got crispy rice salad, Tom kai makham, and pad krapow moo. The tom kai makham is pretty strong flavored and recommend ordering rice to eat with. Pad krapow moo and crispy rice salad is VERY delicious and strong recommended. Also recommended requesting side of sauce&seasoning to add on. Their fish sauce is unforgettable delicious 😋😍 Service is also good.

visited SomTum based on a Thai friend's recommendation, who said their flavors are as close to authentic Thai as you'll find in PDX. SomTum did not disappoint.

The flavors and spice are bold, so be prepared! They have an easy-to-understand heat scale to help guide you. Be sure to try their house specials.

I sampled a bit of everything, and everything was packed with flavor.

The staff is friendly, and while the restaurant is near PSU, parking (street or garage) can be a challenge.

Entrance is tucked inside and easy to miss if not for the A frame placard on the sidewalk. Ordered the Som Tum to go since we were just passing through Portland. The papaya salad was made fresh with lots of dried shrimp but it was a little too much on the sweet side. Also the ingredients could have been crushed more in the Asian mortar and pestle. We may try the place again and a different dish next time we’re in town.

There were flies in, around, and all over our food. They still tried to charge us. They offered a discount. I refused pointing to the multiple flies in our food as they offered a discount. After about 20 minutes of back and forth they decided to comp it. Everyone else seated in the restaurant was also batting away flies. Do not go here.

This was the best dinner I’d had in a while. We got Thai spicy tum poo-plara, fried chicken, goong chae nam-pla, sticky rice and spicy Thai cashew chicken with a roselle and lychee drink. Our waitress was kind and attentive and the staff was very welcoming. Both of us loved this restaurant. Recommend!

If you heard it comes from north Thai then once try would be enough. You have to be really like the sour Thai food and I would say … the food there tastes totally different from you used to eat.
